Union is a colossal twenty-eight track album. Union began its life as a live recording of a Jewish wedding ceremony held in Yosemite National Park (CA, USA). Samples were extracted from this recording and brought together to form Union.
The creation of Union excites me and peaks my interest. I think it is very unique and rare to see something these days created both from nature and love. The album is certainly well named.
Having listened to Union several times, from beginning to end, I know I cannot write a standard review. Normally, I would single out certain tracks and write my opinion of them. With Union, this is impossible because this is not about individual songs but about a sixty-three minute masterpiece of sounds.
I love the sounds of Yosemite National Park interweaving with the sounds of those present at the Jewish wedding. All this floats gently in and out from within very soothing and deeply felt music.
There is no hard beat and this is not something to which you can dance. Union is far more than that. Union is an almost spiritual collection of sounds that will transport you into a very peaceful and relaxed state. It is rather difficult for me to listen and concentrate on writing because I just want to let go and drift off into the wondrous sounds. It truly is magical.
Track 18, Persistence, sticks with the entire sound of the album but a gentle beat kicks in. It is nothing too severe or racy but a tranquil sound.
Track 19, Witness 9, has a rather sinister sound to it, which did surprise me. There is almost a static, electric quality to this track. There are sporadic heavy beats, which are more like thuds. Despite this sudden change, it does fit with the rest of Union. Not all of nature is pleasant and I think this piece of music reflects that darker side.
The World is a favourite of mine. I especially like this track. There is a good little beat in this one and the array of sounds is fantastic. I feel this one, also, does possess a slight darker side. It is very subtle but it is definitely there. I love the way Kyron mixes the elements of nature in this way because in all things there is positive and negative, light and dark.
Union is an awe-inspiring and exquisite creation. For me, it is proof that Kyron is a vastly talented man who has passion and love for what he composes. With the marvellous sounds of nature and the profoundly spiritual array of Jewish wedding samples drifting in and out of the music, there can be no faulting this work of art.
I found Union hard to review because I was concerned I could not really do it justice with my words. I seriously recommend checking Union out for yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed.
